How to Deal with Attacked YouTube Accounts and Ways to Protect the Channels?

One question asked in Episode 62 of Hump Day Hangout was about flagged YouTube account. Find out how you could deal when your account is being attacked. Also discussed are measures on how to protect your channel and video assets.

The exact question asked by the participant was:

On January 7th I had a series of 16 videos flagged on my primary ifttt YouTube trigger account. This resulted in YouTube giving me three strikes as the day went forward and finally suspending my account. A few of these videos had also been posted to a couple of different YouTube channels and they were also flagged. Those accounts also received a strike. These were all similar videos focusing on different keywords within the same area and niche. I was obviously shocked at how quickly this happened and after reviewing the YouTube terms and conditions and community guidelines I did not see any clear reason why this happened. I appealed requesting that they explain why, YT replied like this… “We have decided to keep your account suspended based on our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Please visit http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines” With no explanation.

My feeling is that I got attacked by a competitor who objected to the fact that I was dominating the first two pages of YouTube with my videos. They probably reported every video. I was ranking a lot of videos, the only community issue that YT could claim might have been spam?

What I did was not too much different than Hernan’s California hangouts example he sent out yesterday with his lawyer playlist.
So… I guess I just have to move on, but this is an example of a nightmare that can happen easily if someone gets vindictive and we tend not to think about it until it does. At least it’s a fairly new channel without much work to lose.

What is your advice on how to protect our channels and our work?
I’m thinking I don’t want all of my eggs in one YouTube channel basket, but the tiered ifttt network can only be launched from one channel. Would using three channels connected to my networks be a strategy that might help?

How best to backup our videos and recover quickly??

How about three YouTube channels all connected to the network and spreading my uploads amongst them I would be safeguarding the possibility for another unfair attack and Google’s unfair automatic application of penalties??
