In episode 104 of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked about how to properly set the website version in Google Search Console.
The exact question was:
Hi. I have always used the www version of websites. The http and non-w versions direct to the www at the hosting service. Now, for my new site (which is an affiliate site – no secure ecommerce or customer info needed) I chose https and the SSL certificate to be activated but still used the www.
The first pages on my site were fine, all used the www version. Now the last 3 pages have Both the www and https versions indexed. I am not sure how to stop this from happening, where there is any option to direct the https to the www or which I should even use. I have not seen any place with the host or Google Search Console how to choose one or the other. I don’t fully understand the how-to of https or if it will benefit me to use. Not sure which to choose or how to delete and stop the duplicates. Suggestions? Happy 104th.
